Send a link by text message

Turn on text messages under Settings › Sending, then copy a short message with the link, or open it in Messages on your phone.

Where: Settings › Sending › Delivery methodOpen in Chalkedin

Turn it on

  1. Open Settings and choose the Sending tab.
  2. Under Delivery method, choose SMS/MMS for text messages only, or Both to choose for each link.
  3. Press Save settings.

With Both, the Link ready panel has an Email tab and a Text message tab, so each link can go either way, or as an email with a text to follow it up.

Send it

  1. Make the link as usual, answering Yes to Do you have their phone number?
  2. On the Text message tab, copy the message, or on a phone press Open in Messages to open it ready to send.
  3. Send it from your phone to your customer.

Chalkedin never sends the text and never keeps the number: it goes from your own phone.

How long a text can be

A text of 160 characters or fewer goes as one SMS. A longer one is sent in parts or as an MMS, depending on the phone and the carrier, and may cost more to send. The template editor counts as you type. Dates in a text are written short (Fri 23 Oct, 10:00am) to save room.

Text message templates

Text templates are under Templates as their own group. They are plain text: no button, no calendar icon and no subject line, and the link goes in with the handle [link].

When you only have their mobile number, your customer’s page asks for an email address after they accept, so you can send a calendar invitation. It’s optional, and the address is kept encrypted and cleared with their other details. See Calendar invitations after a yes.
