How long a link stays open (auto-expiry)

An unanswered link can stop by itself after a number of business days, giving its time back to your diary.

Where: Settings › Sending › Auto-expiryOpen in Chalkedin

Every link stops taking answers once the proposed time has passed. Auto-expiry can close it sooner: once the period is up, an unanswered link stops working, moves from Active to Expired, and gives its time back to your diary.

Turn it on and set the period

  1. Open Settings › Sending.
  2. Under Auto-expiry, tick Expire unanswered links automatically.
  3. Set the Default period in business days, and press Save settings.

How the days are counted

  • Only your business days count (set under Settings › Calendar), so 1 day from a Friday afternoon is the Monday afternoon, not the Saturday.
  • The count starts when the link is made, or at opening time on the next business day if you make it outside your business hours.
  • The time is rounded up to the next half hour, so it reads well to your customer. A time that would fall after closing moves to opening time on the next business day.

On New meeting, the fold-down Auto-expire before the proposed date holds a tick box and the days. The badge beside it shows whether it is ON or OFF; click the badge to change it.

  • The days start on your default period, or on the most days that still expire before the proposed time if that is fewer. They can’t be set past the meeting itself.
  • A number typed there is for that link only.
  • NOT POSSIBLE means the proposed time is too soon for the link to expire before it.

What your customer is told

A link that will expire before its proposed time says so on their page, under the time: This time is being held for you until Friday 23 October, 2:00pm. Please let me know before then. You can change the wording under Message to the customer; keep [expiry date] where the date should go.

After it expires

Your customer sees that the link has expired, with your contact details from Settings › Your details. If you turned on Offer another time on an expired link (under Settings › Scheduling), they also get a Let’s reschedule button, and their answer comes back to you under Replied.
