Signing in, passwords and passkeys

Sign in with your email and password or a passkey, and what to do if you have forgotten your password.

Signing in

Press Sign in on the Chalkedin home page, type your email and password and press Sign in, or press Sign in with a passkey. You stay signed in for 12 hours.

Forgotten your password?

  1. On the sign-in page, press Forgot your password?
  2. Type the address you sign in with and press Send the link.
  3. Open the email and choose a new password.

The link is sent to that address and only there. If it hasn’t come, look in your junk folder.

Too many wrong tries

Five wrong attempts hold the sign-in shut for 15 minutes, and every attempt after that doubles the wait. Wait it out, or reset your password.

Change your password or sign-in email

Under Account:

  • Sign-in email: change it and press Save email. This is only the address you sign in with; where answers are emailed is set under Settings › Your details.
  • Password: type your current one, then the new one twice (12 characters or more), and press Change password. It signs you out everywhere, including on this device.

A change to your password or sign-in email is also written to your Notifications, so you would know if it wasn’t you.

Passkeys

Sign in with your fingerprint, face or PIN instead of your password: Windows Hello on a PC, your phone’s fingerprint or face, or a password manager such as 1Password. A passkey can’t be guessed, phished or leaked, because only its public half is kept.

  1. Under Account › Passkeys, type a name for it (Work laptop, say), so you can tell them apart.
  2. Press Add a passkey and follow what your device asks.

Your password still works alongside it. Add one on each device you use.
