Keep busy times off the times you offer

Add your own calendar so its busy times are greyed out, and block out times Chalkedin can’t know about.

Add your calendar

  1. Find your calendar’s published link (see below).
  2. Open Settings › Calendar. Under See your Outlook, Google or Apple busy times in Chalkedin, press Add a calendar.
  3. Give it a Name, paste the link under Its link, and press Add this calendar.

It is read once straight away and added only if that works. You can add up to three. The busy times are then drawn on the Calendar and greyed out when you choose a time on New meeting.

  • Outlook: Calendar settings, Shared calendars, Publish a calendar. Choose the calendar, choose Can view when I’m busy, press Publish and copy the ICS link. If Publish a calendar isn’t offered, your organisation has turned it off.
  • Google Calendar: Settings, the calendar, Integrate calendar, Secret address in iCal format.
  • Apple iCloud: share the calendar as a Public Calendar and copy the link.

What is kept

Only when each busy time starts and ends. Never what an event is called, who it is with, where it is or its notes. Each read replaces the last, the link is stored encrypted, and removing the calendar deletes the lot. Chalkedin never signs in to your mailbox.

Block out a time

For times you’re not free that no calendar knows about: a weekly team meeting, a morning at the dentist, a week of leave.

  1. Under Block out a time, choose Every week on and tick the days, or On a date (add a second date for a run of days).
  2. Set From and To, or tick All day.
  3. Add a Label if you like (only you see it) and press Block out this time.

Blocked times are kept until you remove them; one-off times are let go once they are over.
